Surrealist Bust
My surrealist bust is influenced by my the idea of "biblically accurate angels." Growing up as a Christian, I have always been interested in the idea of angels. When I discovered what angels most likely look like based on how they are described in the Bible, I wanted to translate that into my bust sculpture. The only one of my pieces to have a name, Thrones is a sculpture based off of angels in the Bible. She has several eyes including one on her forehead, mouth, and the back of her head. Since many angels have eyes on their wings and their halos, I decided it would be fun, and a little unsettling, to include more than the normal amount of eyes a human has. She has glossy white skin and jet black hair with bright teal eyes. I wanted her features to look far from human and contrast each other. I purposefully left many of her features like her eyes and eyebrows all white to give her a ghostly appearance that forces you to look closer at her face to really see the details. Thrones is looking up to heaven with her multitude of eyes.
