My Artist Statement
Ever since I was little, I loved making art of all kinds and specifically gravitated towards drawing. Creating art is a way for me to let out my emotions and convey them in an unconventional way. Art is also just one of my hobbies and something that I enjoy doing in my free time. When I finally get to see the finished product of something I worked hard on, there is no better feeling of accomplishment and happiness. I consider myself a creative person and I get tons of ideas for different things I can draw or create all of the time. Whether it be for a final in my history class or a card for a loved one, I will never pass up the opportunity to add a creative and artistic element to my work. In my art classes, whenever a new project was assigned, I get an overwhelming amount of ideas for what I can create in the criteria I am given. I aspire to continue creating whatever my mind tells me to and to not hold myself back to just one idea. My art in my clay classes has never really followed a similar theme. Every individual piece reflects my original idea for that project and I will continue in my randomness of ideas throughout my journey through high school and even college art classes.
During my process of creating work, I go with the flow and can easily change course of what I was planning to do. Sometimes problems arise or better ideas come to me so I try my best to embrace them. I sometimes have a hard time just trying to stick to one idea in the early stages of planning a project, but once I am committed to an idea, I will put all of my effort into it until it's finished. During my time in my pottery classes, I gravitate towards hand building because I think it's the easiest method. It gives you the most control over your piece as opposed to the potter's wheel where one wrong movement can ruin your whole project. When it comes to using materials other than clay, I usually don't know what I use until I am in the later stages of the project. I love coming up with new ideas for every project we're given and that each one can be its own unique piece that's different from the rest.
My current work has been a journey of trying to find themes of what I like. Next year, I will have to come up with questions and a theme that inspires my work. I like to explore many different ideas and see which ones interest me the most. Currently, I explore topics that are different from my past work so that I can grow as an artist. I want my work to be able to reflect my mind and ideas onto the viewer, whether they have some deeper meaning or are just fun to look at. I hope to continue to experiment with whatever ideas come to my mind for future projects.

How do I interpret biblical symbols while developing my own 3D style? I a curious about the purpose of animals in biblical stories, a theme inspired by both my personal faith and interpretations of angels and biblical symbolism. Through my sculptures, I want to create an initial sense of comfort in the viewer, followed by a subtle sense of unease upson closer examination. To unify my pieces, I've used a consistent color scheme and emphasized large eyes throughout my work.
