My Sketchbook

01
Sketchbook Cover
My cover is made out of old jeggings that I cut to fit the cover of the book. I painted on words and images that I thought could work in the same aesthetic. I wrote "godspeed" on the bottom of the cover because my great-grandmother used to write it in letters to my mom when she was younger. I wanted to include elements on it that have a personal meaning to me that other people might not understand at first glace. Overall, I wanted the cover to look almost surreal and dreamlike by adding a lot of clouds, a moon, and a giant eye to give an unsettling look to it.
02
Illustrate a Nightmare
Our assignment was to create two pages that illustrated a dream and a nightmare. This page is my drawing of what a nightmare looks to me. I sometimes have nightmares of tripping and falling down stairs in long, dark stairwells, but always wake up before I hit the ground.

03
Butterdish Sketch
This is my original sketch for my butterdish. The final piece is very similar to the drawing. I kept the color and general shape the same as well as choosing to use terracotta clay.
04
New Year's Resolutions
As the New Year arrived, we made a spread that showed our resolutions and goals for 2024. I used gold and silver metallic markers to make the numbers and a white marker for the fireworks. I wrote my goals inside the numbers. I am very happy with how this piece came out.

05
Trivet Sketch
My trivet turned out very similar in the end. I decided to use glass beads after my trivet was fired the first time so that it would give the appearance of honey. The colors and the design ended up being very similar when I finished the trivet.
06
Artist of the Day
Throughout the year, I made several Artist of the Day sketches that showcased an artist and their work. This spread was about Gregory Halili who made mainly small sculptures of skills inside seashells.

07
Surrealist Bust Sketch
This page is my original idea for Thrones, my surrealist bust. Although she looks different after I made her, I am still happy with the results.
08
Surrealist Bust Sketch
Another one of my sketches for a potential bust design was inspired by the metaphor of ones' brain being "fried" from work or school. Although I didn't actually make this for my project, I love the original sketch and the idea behind it.

09
Wall Piece Sketch
My original wall piece sketch was supposed to only be three pieces but it ended up being four. I added a lot of new details in the final piece that made it look more broken down. I added wire, jagged edges, and crooked clock hands that I think made it a stronger piece.
10
Tea Set Sketch
For our tea sets, they had to be inspired by a piece of literature. I chose The Shining as inspiration for this piece. The tea pot ended up being very similar to the original sketch, but the cups changed. I made them a different shape and decided to put the words on the outside and the red on the inside instead.
